We?ve all heard the line:
"When you're up to your ass in alligators, it's hard to remember that the original goal was to drain the swamp".
Do you feel a bit like that at times? But what do you do about it?
Offsider suggests that you "Take Two". That is, once a month every month, TAKE TWO hours to lock yourself away to reflect on what is happening to your contract.
Heres a few questions just to get you started:
- Is the job going exactly as your estimate predicted? Is this what you started out doing?
- Has draining the swamp somehow become dredging the Amazon?
- How is the project progressing? Is it on time? Have extensions of time been claimed? and allowed?
- Are variations being authorised? Variation Prices approved?
- Is the work progressing smoothly? Or are you being forced to work here there and everywhere, instead of the smooth transition that you planned at tender time?
- Is work being disrupted by late information, late instructions, or late approvals?
- Are you being paid properly? On time?
- Are you being forced to reduce progress payments valuation, just to avoid payment delays?
- Are variations being included in progress payments?
